EXTENSION COURSE ON ALCOHOL AND DRUGS – CEAD Centro de Estudos Luis Guedes (CELG) and the Research Center on Alcohol and Drugs of the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) promote the 4th Extension Course on Alcohol and Drugs. Organized in 36 meetings with emphasis on clinical treatment of patients with problems related to alcohol and other drugs, across 10 months, the course prioritizes the approach and treatment of the use of psychoactive substances, aiming at enabling students to recognize, diagnose, and treat an individual who suffers from abuse or dependency from the view of the main models based on scientific evidence. Enrollments Required documents: Curriculum Vitae, summarized (2 copies), Graduate Certificate, two 3x4 photographs Program The program is divided into:

Regulation Weekly seminars, Mondays, 20:00 to 22:00, March to December Hourly load: 86 hours Local: Room 160 – HCPA, FIRST FLOOR Certificates: provided by Pró-reitoria de Extensão, UFRGS, minimal frequency of 75%. Selection The course is open to psychologists, psychiatrists, and other health professionals, undergraduate or recently graduated; other professionals in the area’s enrollments will be evaluated by the coordinating commission. Objectives: To provide basic knowledge on the main psychoactive substances and their clinical consequences, as well as their main action mechanisms. To provide knowledge about the main techniques to address and treat – with emphasis on the psychotherapeutic processes – problems caused by the use of psychoactive substances. Specific Objectives: To develop diagnostic reasoning based on cases discussion and clinical vignettes and define the best therapeutic approach based on scientific evidence.
