History

The Extension Course on Childhood and Adolescence Psychotherapy at Centro de Estudos Luis Guedes started in March, 1990, with the objective of promoting the modernization in childhood and adolescence psychotherapy. The 1^st course was done in two years, with a total of 4 theoretical-clinical modules and individual supervisions. From 1994 on, it became a 3-module course: 1^st Babies, 2^nd Pre-school and school children, and 3^rd Adolescents, with a total duration of 3 semesters. From 1995 to 2002, with the creation of Residency and Specialization Course in Childhood and Adolescence Psychiatry at HCPA/UFRGS, the course was included in the Residency’s theoretical program. Since 2004, the course has been offered to psychiatrists and psychologists with accredited training in adult psychotherapy.

Regulation

The course comprises 2 years. It consists of 4 disciplines developed in four modules per semester: Development, Theory, Technique and Collective Supervision. The seminars will be conducted on Mondays 19:30 to 22:30, at the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre.

Each student must take supervision on two psychotherapeutic cases concerning child and/or adolescent, with a minimum of 60 hours. The schedules and payments of Individual Supervision will be accorded with the course instructors, within CELG criteria. In the end of the course, each student must deliver a monograph or clinical study, in the form of an article for publication.

Those who accomplish all the requirements will receive a certificate of academic extension course conclusion (UFRGS).

Selection

PSYCHIATRISTS with accredited training in General Psychiatry and/or Childhood and Adolescence Psychiatry (Residency, Specialization Course, or Specialist in Psychiatry Degree by the ABP) and Course on Adult Psychotherapy.

PSYCHOLOGISTS with accredited training and Course on Adult Psychotherapy.

Program

Duration: 2 years
The Theory discipline comprehends contents on normal development, psychoanalytic theory and childhood and adolescence psychopathology.
The Technique discipline includes the study of psychotherapeutic techniques specific to each developmental stage, as well as diagnostic evaluation.

The collective supervision will accompany at least one child case and one adolescent case.
