WHAT IS CAP?

The Psychotherapy Center (Centro de Atendimento Psicoterápico - CAP) was created in 1996 by Centro de Estudos Luis Guedes (CELG) and has the function of providing analytic psychotherapeutic treatment at lower costs to people who need it and may benefit from this kind of treatment.

WHAT IS ANALYTIC PSYCHOTHERAPY?

It is a method for treating problems of emotional nature, in which contents of the mind are analyzed, especially those unconscious (dreams, freely associated thoughts, feelings).

Objectives: obtaining a higher level of mental (internal) and relational (external) balance, promoting growth and development of the personality.

How it works: it uses the speech with free associations; patient and therapist seat one in front of the other, 1-2 weekly sessions, with a focus: the objective to be attained. The treatment may take months or even years.

Indications: reactive disorders, vital and accidental crises, circumscribed conflicts, grievances and others. It is particularly indicated for patients with good introspection capacity, good intellectual level and motivation.

WHO ATTENDS AT CAP?

The patients are seen by mental health professionals (psychologists and psychiatrists) in training period in the analytic psychotherapy course and physicians in their last residency years in psychiatry at the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre.

HOW IS THE TREATMENT PROVIDED?

The service is performed by the therapist in his private practice and cost of each session will be determined according to the income of each patient and combined with the therapist during the evaluation sessions,

WHO MAY BE ATTENDED?

Children, teenagers, and adults.

IS THERE EMERGENCY TREATMENT?

No. People who need emergency treatment must look for psychiatric emergency services.

CAN THE TREATMENT BE PROVIDED WITHOUT COSTS?

No. It is important to remind that some patients have a wrong idea that they will be attended at the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre or that the attention at CAP is free. There are some public places that provide psychotherapeutic treatment by SUS (Unified Health System), which is the case of HCPA. To be attended by the SUS it is necessary be referred by a doctor through a health center.

HOW CAN I LOOK FOR THE CAP?

Interested patients may get in touch with Daniel and/or Bernardo by the number 33598416 / 33331396 (8 pm to 16:00).Their data will be sent to the CAP coordinator, who will phone them for a brief trial interview before referring the patient. Usually the professionals take one or two weeks to get in touch.
