The course of Analytic Psychotherapy at the CELG was created in 1984 as an extension course (UFRGS) aiming at promoting renewal in psychotherapy. Since then, 18 groups were put together, and 240 students finished the course.

Since 1998, the course comprises two years, amounting to 450 hours/class (1st year – Basic Fundaments, 2^nd year – Up-to-dating)

Since 2001 the course was approved as specialization, becoming the first in Brazil in this modality to be recognized by the Ministry of Education and Culture through UFRGS.
